A Fantastic Day in Singapore.
I know I promised to start on my India trip but that HAS to wait.
Had one of the best days ever since getting into Singapore:
- Started with my first gym session in absolute ages
- I really HAVE lost so much muscle strength, lifting less than 30% of what I used to.
- Not TOO unhappy with my Body Fat level sitting at 19%
- Really like my new trainer too, seems like a really relaxed chap and not overtly image obsessed
- They've got a pretty neat pool over at Capital Towers though I've been told that I HAVE to check out the one down on George Street for its views.
Wandered on over to Red Dot Traffic's Pacific Coffee Company which made me an absolutely horrid mocha, she must've swirled the milk and cocoa for at least 30s and the shot glasses she used were definitely not very clean at all, PLUS her extraction period went on for WAY too long.. and don't get me started about how overheated the milk was. This wasn't part of the 'good' bit of the day but it did get me seriously thinking about bringing someone from Melbourne in to run a Barista training, really liked the woman that took me for Advanced Espresso at William Angliss. (apologies for the espresso snob rant)
had a fantastic day at work too.. (though I think this was highlighted by a senior correspondent from the straits times' political desk confirming her attendance at our 'Women in the Workplace' briefing).. I know I keep telling everyone this I'm really enjoying all the tea n cakes that go around!
~its really awful writing this weeks after cuz my memory's just horrible, this CoULD've been the day we discovered this awesome vegetarian AND brown rice place during lunch, for $2.50 too!~
after work, and an oddly green tapioca cake and a quick drink n snack at Harry's, Erin got us tickets to "The Pickle King", which was playing at the Singapore Repertory Theatre (was my first time in this theatre too.. looked sorta newish).
It was quite a refreshing break from all the high budget broadway performances that usually find their way to Singapore, and there was a huge sense of.. well.. nostalgia i guess.. especially when they mentioned one of the star performers, playing a character named Sasha, often played in Melbourne and was just at the International Comedy festival there.
it was great chattin to erin's friends after over sake as well, one of her friends who's just about to start with the ADB (couldn't stop myself from going on about how jealous I was) really painted such a clear picture of the potential for great diving based out of Singapore... going out on a liveaboard every weekend.. dealing with nothing but the sun and the sea.. that could be SO sweet. another friend of her's who was just down for a couple of days umpiring at the Australian Open in Melbourne (you know, the one I ALWAYS miss) really inspired me to promise myself that I have just GOT to take up tennis again (oh and yea she made me miss Melbourne heaps too)..
taking the tube home.. stopped by the dhoby gaut and was just stunned. it must have been years and years (I dare say even a decade) since I last set foot in this station and my god has it changed... it was this massive expanse of criss-crossing escalator after escalator..
i guess it was an awesome day because the moment i plonked myself down on the sofa (with the almost instinctual flicking of the tele to bbc news) a really content smile crept across my facade.. i could really live here.. was the though i couldn't shake all that night..
